About Dave Thomas

I have spent more than 25 years working at the intersection of complex thinking and consequential expression.

I hold a PhD in entomology and began in science communication in 2001, working with academics, research institutes, and research-driven companies to publish results, secure grants, inspire stakeholders, and reach wider audiences. Over time, I came to understand that the obstacles were rarely about writing. They were about the thinking that had to come before it.

Since 2006, I have worked with humanitarian and development NGOs on strategic communication: clarifying complex development challenges, building narratives that drive action, and connecting diverse voices across cultures and communities. This strand of the work took on new depth when I co-founded Our Daily Bread. We work in  Ukraine and enable our partners to give war-traumatised children a future, keep soldiers human, and help communities move from surviving to living. Working directly in Ukraine has sharpened my understanding of what it means to genuinely listen under pressure and to communicate with clarity.

With The Golden Thread, these strands come together. I work with researchers, research institutes, innovative companies and humanitarian and development NGOs as a thinking partner. I listen until people can name what they are carrying, find the structure that gives it shape, and produce the documents that express what they need to tell.
