When your work is complex, your story needs to match it.

Innovative companies often struggle to find a partner who genuinely understands the complexity of what they do. Someone who can read highly technical material, engage with the thinking, and help shape it into communication that the right audience will understand and act on.

Where I come in

The specialist team that has deep knowledge and real results to share, but whose content is not yet structured to reach the people who most need to hear it. The technical blog series or publication where the thinking is solid, but the reader needs to be guided through it more deliberately. The company whose external communication is accurate has not yet found the form that prompts a response.

I come in as a thinking partner. I read the material carefully, get to grips with what the team is actually trying to communicate, and then work with them on how to structure it so it reaches the people it needs to reach. That means asking questions about what the audience already knows, what they need to understand, and what you want them to do as a result of reading. It means pushing back when the logic jumps, suggesting a different order when the argument builds in the wrong direction, and working through the choices with the team until the content does what it needs to do.

The writing that follows from that process is stronger because the thinking underneath it has been worked through. The specialist knowledge stays intact. What changes is how it is organised and delivered.

What I bring?

I have worked with specialist teams in chemistry, software engineering, agricultural science, and horticulture on exactly this challenge: deep expertise, complex materials, and audiences that range from fellow specialists to clients and funders who need to understand enough to act.

I understand technical and scientific complexity. I know how to find the argument inside it and make it work for the people who need to receive it.

Where I help you excel

Technical content and blog series: working with specialist teams to structure complex knowledge for their intended audience, from the initial concept through to the final text.

Scientific copywriting: thoughtful content that convinces and engages without losing precision, for clients, investors, partners and the wider public.

Corporate and strategic documents: vision statements, strategic plans, annual reports, stakeholder communications. Built from the thinking, not imposed on it.

Positioning and narrative: helping you articulate what makes you distinctive, why it matters to your audience, and how to hold that story together across different contexts and stakeholders.

How can I make sure your communication does justice to your complex work?

For new clients, the first hour is free. I look forward to thinking with you.

Testimonials

Dave is an awesome sparring partner

Jerry van den Broeke

Senior Communication Strategist, Top Sector ChemistryNL

“I have worked with Dave many times in the last couple of years and with great pleasure. He is the person who immediately pops up in my mind when I want to translate complex issues like technical innovations or abstract challenges such as the circular economy into multilingual concepts, storylines, formats, visuals, animations, headings, etc. Then Dave is an awesome sparring partner. He is always open to improvements and has a high level of respect for the input and ideas of others. If you add to this his warm personality and great smile (even visible on a small Teams screen) then Dave is the man to have on board to give your communication a heart and soul and turn complex ideas into clear stories.”
